Poesy! Poesy! The Rime Of Amos Yee
There once was a cocky, precocious Amos.
By Jove! try did this teen to be infamous.
March 2015, as the nation mourned,
He was all champing at the bit to taunt;

Effing and blinding his dearie countryman,
Mocking them as Lee’s necrophiliac sycophant;
Impetuously tempted and dared fate proper
In an uptight nation of law and order.

Ergo, received 4 weeks in the pokey
For which methought was overly meany,
Thus prompted my dispatch of a Court letter.
In truth, he’s but a time-released disaster.

Hell’s bells! for no sooner was the hellion sprung
Than he took leave of the senses of his tongue.
Shall we all or shall we not forgive him so,
Who now outraged even sacred status quo?

The second sentence I concurred was in conscience.
This time: 6 weeks, but served only half the sentence;
Spent the rest at home watching Trump’s wild election
As he was being egged on to scheme on asylum.

Of late Aug. the waif’s bid stays in limbo,
Looking at umpteen moons of touch-and-go.
Big sisters, babysitters cum keepers,
Behooves you now to be his coddlers.

But with his app now on ice till the next big test,
Shouldn’t he be due home for his Army-NS?
Big sisters cum keepers, let’s be forthright,
Prolonging his gamble is plain not right.

As he lost his marbles on his Facebook wall —
Host-vituperation was so uncalled for,
Riding his sham grandiosity for a fall.

Expression can have dire comeuppance.
Disagree? Just ask the hapless Snowden.
Noisome hubris and being a Narcissist,
That per se is Amos’ own worst nemesis.

But profanity/blasphemy was never cool.

Melissa Chen, pardon my off-topic posting here… since you are not quite ready for a court update on Amos’ hearing today, so let me go ahead and sound off…
Here’s a ringing indictment for Amos’ intimate advisors in the wake of his January 30th Court hearing that necessitates further hearing deferment as he continues to fester in jail…
Loose lips sink ships — Amos has sunk his own ship. However, he is in large measure a misdirected victim himself in his asylum quest. From the get-go, his U.S. ‘consiglieri‘ hazarded his asylum gamble thru wholly unholy rose-colored, make-believe lenses; and soon he was shucked by them all. I’m reproaching his US rah-rah contingent for their egregious misguidance and a total absence of due diligence resulting in gross miscalculation for the naive 18-year-old kid.
The sheer gullibility of this teenage egomaniac is only exceeded by the promiscuous, unfounded idealism of his backseat drivers doubling down on his asylum crapshoot. Such ruefully misguided idealism is borne out by the eye-popping fact that only a handful of Amos donors (about 64) responded to his ongoing fund-drive, and less than 400 thus far have rallied behind his Immigration release — as opposed to some 7,000 online petitioners who rallied around him during his first run-in with the authority at home 2 years ago despite a smaller reach of Internet audience he had then. His present mare’s nest bespeaks a blunder of scandalous proportion — the complete mis-read of public sentiment/support, never mind the mindless overlooking of the Trump Administration’s already well-publicized hostile immigration clampdown pledge.
Surely, Amos’ personal character faults, actual or imputed, are legion. However, the one chief bane in his latter adolescence is his incorrigible ego which is not so much un-reformed as un-reformable at this stage — that’s his problem in a nutshell. Will he be able to shuck it off over time? Possibly, but unlikely — rarely does one get a second chance to make a first impression. Having observed his conduct up-close over the last 2 years, mission impossible would be a better bet. I recalled reading comments to the effect that the 70-year-old braggart Trump today is no different in basic character from what he was then at 13 as he was shipped upstate to a military-style academy for 5 years of supposed character edification.
What Amos needs now is not more of the same smarmy ego-stroking from the like of poster ‘21-83’; what he really needs is some ass-kicking ‘213-regulating’ from the like of Warren G — pardon my co-opting here a rapper’s rapier lyrics for effect.
P.S.: it’s worth noting that the hypnotic potion, otherwise known as the ’21-83’ Kool-Aid, has such befuddling effect that even Amos’ pro bono attorney Ms. Sandra Grossman is unable to see the forest for the trees as evidenced by her unduly Panglossian take in this linked article.
