Iczzii Davez Briefly translates: The song describes how the plum flower blooms in the coldest and most desolate place and time. The flower stands strong at the tip of the coldest branch against wind and snow. It does not yield to the harshest conditions. LaMu was basically singing her own story.

+Iczzii Davez, here’s my adapted take on the lyrics translation…

A Sprig Of Plum Blossoms

True love is vast as the grasslands;
Layer upon layer of wind and rain cannot stand in its way.
There’ll always be a time when the cloud clears and the sun shines;
A million miles of sunlight be upon you and me.

True love like the plum blossom blooms far and wide;
Not even the icy wintry snow can smother it —
For at the coldest moment a bud shoots out,
And we see Spring sprinting towards us.

The snowflakes drift and the north wind howls;
The earth and sky are a barren expanse.
But a branch of plum proudly displays itself amidst the snow,
Permeating fragrance for my loved one.
Loving mine as I do with no qualms no regrets,
Such love will long abide within the recesses of my heart.

+Lester Kok “At the coldest moment a bud shoots out” …. I think it should be “At the coldest tip of a branch, a bud shoots out”
Hey, I am just being picky again. Otherwise great translation.

Andy Sleeter Since you brought it up, to be punctilious, I would reword it as ‘At the coldest, a bud emerges from the tip of a branch.’ Incidentally, I got help in the rendition, so I cannot claim sole credit for it.

Lester Kok “就在最冷枝头绽放”
I am speaking from a botanical point of view.  Plum flowers dont bloom when it is freezing like below 24F, flower buds are killed at that 最冷時候.
But twigs that have been frozen in winter actually protect the cells that will turn into flower buds.  Mid winter warmth can cause the branches to lose this protection for the flower buds.  Therefore the colder the branch, the more protection for the bud cells.  Hence the plum flowers bud from the coldest tips of the branches.  Who says ancient chinese are not good scientists??

Andy Sleeter Interesting interpretation. The Prunus or plum tree which is a member of the rose family, is a stone fruit. And like typical fruit trees, winter is a period of dormancy with no germinating activity. Here we have a song taking poetic license with its lyrics to depict an anomaly in nature… thereby making it into a classic beauty of verse and melody — that we all can appreciate and agree on.

+Lester Kok It certainly sounds better than singing a song about a Cactus flower blooming in the driest of deserts… with its thorns and all.

+Andy Sleeter Hi Andy, how are you? …it’s more than a year since we last posted here about Lamu. I have not been keeping close tabs on her progress. If you do, would appreciate an update. Best, Lester

Andy Sleeter

+Lester Kok “would appreciate an update”….. Hi Lester, Long time no hear. Not much to update recently. LaMu is supposed to concert in California by February, and in HK by May. But we dont seem to get confirmation yet. Lots of fans are complaining about her getting fat….. LOL.

Lester Kok

Thanks for the latest. (Wonder if is she still at the musical academy in Beijing?) … getting fat? or getting into womanhood … anyway, sending her my best for her tours, it’s good to hear fr you.

Andy Sleeter

+Lester Kok….. LaMu has moved out of the Music Academy, and has been attending regular high school. I didnt know that getting fat and getting into womanhood are equivalent….. LOL

glory ch

Andy Sleeter why she moves out

Andy Sleeter

+glory ch “she moves out”…….. For one thing, the Academy teaches mainly country songs rather than pop songs. Second, the Academy is probably too expensive. Third, LaMu may be too busy for school.

glory ch

Andy Sleeter doubt. mainlainder can raise her or not

Andy Sleeter

+glory ch “can raise her or not”…… Time will tell……..
